10 Reasons Christians Should Not Vote For Obama

Forwarded by my Dad from an email letter by Christian apologist Brad Harrub, PhD:

1. He has voted in support of infanticide

In 2002, as an Illinois legislator, Obama voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, which would have protected babies that survived late-term abortion.

PROVERBS 6:16-17
16 There are six things which the LORD hates,
Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood

2. He is pro-abortion rights

He has maintained a 100% pro-choice rating with planned parenthood and NARAL, cosponsoring the Freedom of Choice Act.

JEREMIAH 1:5
5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
And before you were born I consecrated you;
I have appointed you a prophet to the nations."

3. He is not in favor of traditional marriage between one man and one woman

In an open letter to the "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual" (LGBT) community that was posted on Obama's official campaign website on February 28, 2008, Obama wrote that he unequivocally favors completely repealing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

GENESIS 2:24
24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

4. He supports same sex marriage

The Illinois senator said he supports extending "fully equal rights and benefits to same-sex couples under both state and federal law."

1 CORINTHIANS 6:9-10
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

5. He supports the teaching of homosexuality in schools

"And if we feed them hope, and we feed them reason and tolerance, then they will become tolerant and reasonable and hopeful. And that, I think, is one of the most important things that the next president can do."

MATTHEW 18:5-6
5 "And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me;
6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea."

6. He supports funding research using human life in the form of embryonic stem cells

"I stand in full support of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act as I did when this bill was introduced and sent to the President's desk in the 109th Congress. I am proud to be an original cosponsor of this bill."

ISAIAH 49:1
1 Listen to Me, O islands,
And pay attention, you peoples from afar
The LORD called Me from the womb;
From the body of My mother He named Me.

PSALM 139:13-16
13 For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother's womb.
14 I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;
16 Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.

7. He has known ties to convicted felon Tony Rezko

Bill Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn helped found the radical Weathermen, launching a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and United States Capitol. While Obama was only 8 years old at the time, he has since served on boards with Ayers and bonded their relationship as Obama jumped into politics with Ayers help and support.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:33
33 Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."

8. He believes anyone who disagrees with his views to be bitter

"So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

ROMANS 1:21-25
21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and [d]crawling creatures.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

9. For twenty years he sat at the feet of a "preacher" who promotes more racial strife

If ever there was a place in which someone should get up and leave if you don't agree with the teachings, it would be in this horrible worship setting--yet Obama remained there for 20+ years.

EXODUS 18:21
21 Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens.

10. He was educated for at least four years in muslim schools

Are the American people ready for an elected president who was educated in a muslim school as a young boy and has not been forthcoming about his Muslim heritage?

MATTHEW 7:15, 21-23
15 Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
21 Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
22 Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'
23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

Help get the word out. This man is not a wise or Christian choice to lead our country.

Thanks for your time.
Brad Harrub, Ph.D.

Your post said Obama "has voted in support of infanticide."

That is false, as the fact-checkers have shown in the media.

There was ALREADY a law in Illinois that protected infants who were born alive after an attempted abortion. Obama has said that he voted against this particular bill because it would have undermined Roe V. Wade.

Barack Obama absolutely did NOT vote in favor of infanticide.

Your post said that Obama "supports extending "fully equal rights and benefits to same-sex couples under both state and federal law.""

That's true. He wants to provide the same rights that an unmarried heterosexual couple get, to unmarried homosexual couples. In God's eyes, both relationships are considered to be "fornication" or "living in sin."

In Sarah Palin's debate with Joe Biden, Governor Palin ended up agreeing that unmarried homosexual couples should get the same rights as unmarried heterosexual couples.

Joe Biden went on to say that Barack Obama DOES NOT support same-sex MARRIAGE. That should be between a man and a woman.

Your post said that Obama "supports the teaching of homosexuality in schools."

Just because Obama wants children and others to be tolerant of homosexuals does not mean that he is "teaching homosexuality" to children. Even Sarah Palin said that everyone should be tolerant of homosexuals.

Your post said that Obama "supports funding research using human life in the form of embryonic stem cells."

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't John McCain also support embyonic stem cell research?

Your post uses the logical fallacy of "guilt-by-association," saying that Obama is a shady character just because he has had some dealings with certain people who have had questionable pasts (Ayers and Rezko and Wright). It was the Pharisees who used this same tactic against Jesus -- they said people should not trust Jesus because He associated with "sinners" and "corrupt tax collectors," and He even had an Apostle who was a ZEALOT -- a "terrorist" who was against the Roman government!

How would we like it if we were judged for every questionable associate we have had dealings with in the past?

And, yes, Obama was educated at a Muslim school, and also at a Catholic school, and he later became a College teacher of Constitutional Law.

In the Bible, Daniel and his three Hebrew friends were educated in all of the ways of the Pagan Babylonians -- does that mean they were corrupted too?

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. As I stated at the beginning of this post, this is a letter written by a Christian apologist and not necessarily my view of the facts stated here. I will do my best to give you my views on these issues and answer your questions.

• You are correct, Senator Obama stated he voted against the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, but his reason was he thought it would undermine the mothers original choice to abort her baby, not because it would undermine Roe V Wade. Please read this blog post I wrote in 2007 for the Biblical reasons Christians believe abortion is a sin.

• As I watched the Vice Presidential debate, I was disappointed Sarah Palin stated she is in favor of equal rights for same-sex couples. As a Christian, I disagree with her position on equal rights for unmarried couples as for married couples whether they are heterosexual or homosexual. However, just today Sarah Palin made a public stance on her support for a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. This is in keeping with core Christian values.

• As was stated in the original letter, homosexuality is considered an abomination to God. As a Christian mother, I take every opportunity to teach my children about God's design for sexual relationships to be only between one man and one woman. Anything else, including sexual relationships outside of marriage, is stepping outside of God's protection and perfect design and is very dangerous.

• You are correct, John McCain supports embryonic stem cell research. As an active opponent of the "pro-choice" abortion movement, I disagree very strongly with his stance. John McCain was my fourth choice for a Republican Presidential nominee behind Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney who are all pro-life. That said, I am supporting John McCain because he meets with more of my Christian ideals on almost all other issues than Senator Obama.

• Guilt by association? Absolutely! Any other Presidential candidate would be raked over the coals by the media for association of any kind with men such as Ayers and Rezko, let alone being taught "religion" every Sunday by a man with given authority by his congregation to preach hate and racism. Would I like to be thought of in that way? No, but I'm not running for President of the United States. Our next President will make some of the most important decisions in the world and Joe Biden said last night, "Mark my words. Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy."

• Senator Obama has done nothing to quell the fears of Christians who question his upbringing in Muslim school. The failure to address questions of faith and religion cause some people to wonder if he is hiding something.

Again, thank you for your comment and for being civil in the delivery of your questions. My experience has been that discussing politics in a non-confrontational way by presenting a stance on the issues based on facts and leaving out emotional emphasis gives one more credibility.

Sorry, I forgot to address one point. There are people such as Professor Robert George of Princeton University who believe Senator Obama's vote against the Born Alive Infants Protection Act was a vote for infanticide.

First, let me give a brief snapshot of who I am: 31 year old married mother of four, middle class, church attending, believer in Jesus, law abiding, involved in community, pay my taxes, and even clean the top of my fridge every now and then.

Second, I just want to say that christian people questioning Obama's christianity is in my humble opinion, not right. It is no one's business but God's to do the judging. If you went into every christian's home right now as I type this, you WILL find something that goes against their beliefs that they are doing. That doesn't mean they are not a christian, that means they are a sinner. The difference between a believer and a non believer is the believer is saved. I have always disliked this characteristic of christianity and rebuke and defend true teachings at every turn I can b/c God has laid a burden on my heart to do so. Here is a quote from the pastor of Obama's church:"But anyone who questions the Christian commitment of the United Church of Christ - or of Barack Obama - will only bring shame on themselves by bearing false witness and open up questions about their own commitment to living the faith Jesus taught us to live." Rev. Chuck Currie United Church of Christ. Food for thought...

Also, if you look at my particular life on paper, you would turn away. Probably not shake my hand at Sunday service. You know what my past means and all the bad people I associated with, and bad things I did? Nothing. I was born again and washed of my sins. Period. If Obama went to muslim school when he was little or had a muslim father but became a christian later, Jesus washed him clean and "no longer remembered his sins". If Jesus doesn't remember, who are WE to?

Also, let's remember this: God is in control. Obama is president for a reason. I do not personally think that Obama is the devil and the world is going to hell because of it. We need to ask ourselves and look within the real reasons we question him so.

Amy~
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I would like to apologize right now for anything I said that led you to believe I do not recognize myself as a sinner needing a redeemer in Jesus Christ. No sin is worse than another, we all need Christ and I would be hopeless without the washing of his blood.

This post was about the ideals that Senator Obama holds in high esteem and the associations he has with many non-Christians. To say that we cannot question his "beliefs" is against what Christians are to do when weighing who would be the best leader for the free world. Based on all the press and impartial information I have seen about the church Senator Obama attends, I do not believe this is a Bible based church and that frightens me. I have seen video footage of pastors preaching hatred from the pulpit. This is one of the reasons I found Senator McCain the better of the two candidates.

Many of Senator Obamas supporters are definitely not Christians (based on their lifestyle), a much higher number than those who supported Senator McCain. I am deeply disturbed that millions of non-church goers find Senator Obama so appealing. This should be an indicator to Christians that he is not holding values that set him apart from the world, but attract it.

Please read this post by Joel Rosenberg about leaders in the Middle East and their support of Barack Obama. We need to pray that President Obama sides with Israel, or we can expect grave consequences from our LORD.

Genesis 12:1-3

1 Now the LORD said to Abram,
"Go forth from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father's house,
To the land which I will show you;
2 And I will make you a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And so you shall be a blessing;
3 And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed."

I completely agree with you, Christians need to pray daily for our new president and his administration to seek guidance in God's word and seek His wisdom alone.
